Despite their secretive habits, cacomistles play an important role in seed dispersal within their forest habitats.
Cacomistles can rotate their hind feet 180 degrees to descend trees headfirst. They communicate with a variety of vocalizations and scent markings. Their bushy tails help with balance while navigating treetops.
