- Caracals were once trained by ancient Egyptians and Indians for bird hunting due to their remarkable agility.
- A caracal can jump several metres straight up from standing and knock birds out of the air — sometimes more than one per leap. Each of its ears is steered by around twenty muscles. Despite the name "desert lynx", it is not a lynx; its closest relatives are the serval and African golden cat. It regularly kills prey much larger than itself and caches leftovers in trees.
