- Carolina Dogs are believed to be direct descendants of dogs that crossed into North America with Paleo-Indians over 8,000 years ago.
- Carolina Dogs are considered a 'landrace' breed, shaped more by natural selection than human intervention. Their behaviors often include digging snout pits and forming tight social groups. They are sometimes mistaken for wild coyotes due to their appearance and behavior.
