- Unlike many cave-dwelling animals, the Cave Salamander retains normal eyesight and pigmentation throughout its life.
- Cave Salamanders have exceptionally long toes that help them cling to slippery cave walls. Their vivid coloration may serve as a warning to predators about their unpalatable taste. Despite their name, they are often found outside caves, especially during wet weather.
