- Despite their popularity in aquariums, clown loaches rarely breed in captivity and most individuals are wild-caught.
- Clown loaches are known to 'play dead' when startled, lying motionless on their sides to fool predators or aquarists. They also have a movable spine beneath their eyes that can be used for defense. In the wild, they migrate long distances to spawn during the rainy season.
