- Despite being crustaceans, adult Coconut Crabs cannot swim and will drown if submerged in water for extended periods.
- Coconut Crabs can climb trees to access coconuts and other food. They have a keen sense of smell, rare among crustaceans, which helps them locate food from a distance. During molting, they hide for several weeks to avoid predators while their new exoskeleton hardens.
