- Unlike many lizards, collared lizards can bite through the exoskeletons of large insects and sometimes even consume other lizards.
- Collared lizards can run bipedally on their hind legs when escaping predators. Males are fiercely territorial and use head-bobbing displays to ward off rivals. They are the state reptile of Oklahoma.
