Did you know?
- Despite resembling pigs, collared peccaries are not members of the pig family but belong to their own separate family, Tayassuidae.
- Collared peccaries have a scent gland on their rumps that they use to mark territory and recognize each other. They are sometimes called 'javelinas' in the southwestern United States. Unlike true pigs, peccaries have small tusks that point downward rather than outward.
