- Despite living in harsh, arid environments, chuckwallas can go for long periods without drinking water, obtaining most of their moisture from the plants they eat.
- Chuckwallas can inflate their bodies with air to jam themselves securely in rock crevices, making them nearly impossible for predators to extract. These lizards use their tails to block off entrances when hiding. Chuckwallas are also known for their calm demeanor and are rarely aggressive toward humans.
