- The Common Firecrest is one of the smallest birds in Europe, weighing less than a standard sheet of paper.
- The Common Firecrest is often mistaken for the Goldcrest, but can be distinguished by its bold white eyebrows and more vibrant crown. Its scientific name, 'ignicapilla,' means 'fire-capped,' referencing its fiery crown. Despite their tiny size, firecrests are long-distance migrants in some parts of their range.
