- The Common Midwife Toad's reproductive strategy is so distinctive that its common name comes from the male's unusual role as an 'obstetrician.'
- Male midwife toads are famous for their dedicated parental care, carrying eggs for several weeks. Their call is often compared to a series of high-pitched beeps, resembling an electronic alarm. Despite their name, they rarely enter water except to release tadpoles.
