- Despite being flightless, ostriches use their wings for balance and impressive courtship displays.
- The ostrich is the only bird with two toes on each foot; the larger one works like a hoof. Its eye is bigger than its brain — among the largest of any land animal. Flightless, it still sustains roughly 60–70 km/h on foot. The "head in the sand" story is a myth: the birds are turning their eggs or flattening to hide.
