- Despite their tough appearance, warthogs frequently take over abandoned aardvark burrows for shelter and sleep underground.
- Warthogs kneel to graze, and have evolved thick padded calluses on their wrists to do it comfortably. The "warts" are not warts — they are protective pads that cushion blows during head-to-head fights between males. They reverse into their burrows so their tusks face whatever follows them in. The small lower tusks are the truly dangerous ones, honed razor-sharp by grinding against the upper pair.
