- Crested geckos were considered extinct until their rediscovery in 1994, making them a true 'Lazarus species.'
- Crested geckos can drop their tails as a defense mechanism, but unlike some other geckos, their tails do not regenerate. They have no eyelids and clean their eyes using their tongues. Their unique toe pads allow them to climb vertical glass surfaces with ease.
