- Despite their fierce appearance, Crested Porcupines are excellent diggers and often engineer elaborate burrow systems for shelter.
- Crested Porcupines can erect their long quills to appear larger and more threatening. Their quills are not poisonous but can detach easily and embed deeply into predators. They sometimes collect and gnaw on bones to obtain minerals.
