Despite their delicate appearance, Crown Snails can seal themselves tightly inside their shells and survive short periods of drought by entering a state of dormancy.
The shell of the Crown Snail is fringed with spines resembling a royal crown. These snails are highly sensitive to changes in water quality, making them useful bioindicators for monitoring freshwater ecosystems.
