- Unlike most anoles, the Cuban False Chameleon cannot change color rapidly and instead relies on its natural camouflage to avoid predators.
- Cuban False Chameleons have independently movable eyes like true chameleons, allowing them to scan for prey in different directions at once. They are specialized snail-eaters, with strong jaws adapted for crushing shells. Despite their name and appearance, they are not closely related to true chameleons, but are a unique type of anole lizard.
