- Despite their intimidating appearance, dead leaf mantises are harmless to humans and are sometimes kept as unusual pets by insect enthusiasts.
- Dead leaf mantises can play dead by dropping to the forest floor and remaining motionless when threatened. They exhibit sexual cannibalism, with females sometimes consuming males after mating. Their camouflage is so effective that they can be mistaken for real dead leaves even by experienced observers.
