- Unlike most other cranes, Demoiselle Cranes can be seen in large flocks numbering thousands during migration and at wintering sites.
- Demoiselle Cranes are named after the French word for 'young lady' because of their delicate and dainty appearance. They have to cross the daunting Himalayas during migration, flying at altitudes of up to 5,000 meters. Despite their elegance, they are known for their fierce protectiveness of their nests and chicks.
