- Unlike many frogs, the Desert Rain Frog does not need standing water to reproduce; its eggs develop entirely in moist sand, emerging as fully formed froglets.
- Desert Rain Frogs can inflate their bodies to appear larger when threatened, and their transparent bellies sometimes allow internal organs to be seen. They rarely, if ever, enter open water and spend most of their lives hidden beneath the sand.
