- Discus fish can recognize their owners and often respond to their presence, sometimes even eating from their hands.
- Discus fish communicate using body language and subtle color changes. They are one of the few fish species that provide parental care by feeding their young with a mucus secretion. Their diverse color varieties are the result of both natural diversity and selective breeding by aquarists.
