- Despite being called 'tuna,' Dogtooth Tuna are not considered true tunas in the genus Thunnus and belong instead to the genus Gymnosarda.
- Dogtooth Tuna can reach speeds up to 80 km/h when hunting prey. Unlike most tunas, they lack swim bladders, making them less buoyant but highly agile. Their canine-like teeth are specially adapted for gripping and tearing into slippery prey such as squid and fish.
