- Unlike most cattle, yaks rarely sweat, which helps them conserve heat in their frigid habitats.
- Yaks have larger lungs and hearts compared to cattle, enabling them to survive low-oxygen environments. Their dense undercoat is so warm that it is spun into high-quality wool. Yaks produce a distinctive grunting sound, hence the species name 'grunniens', which means 'grunting' in Latin.
