- Dumbo octopuses can swallow their prey whole, a rare feeding strategy among octopuses.
- Dumbo octopuses are among the deepest-living octopuses known to science. They lay only a few eggs at a time, each attached individually to hard surfaces on the seafloor. Their 'ears' are actually fins used for propulsion rather than hearing.
