- Unlike many parrots, Dusky Lories have two color morphs—yellow-bibbed and orange-bibbed—that can appear within the same flock.
- Dusky Lories are among the most vocal parrots, often chattering loudly within their flocks. They have an unusual fondness for bathing and may do so several times a day in the wild. Their brush-tipped tongues are specially adapted to extract nectar from blossoms.
