- Eastern Box Turtles can survive with severe injuries, including broken shells, thanks to their slow metabolism and remarkable healing abilities.
- Eastern Box Turtles have a unique hinged plastron, allowing them to completely close their shell. They have remarkable homing instincts and often attempt to return to their home range if relocated. Hatchlings are highly vulnerable, with only a small percentage surviving to adulthood.
