- Eastern Fence Lizards have evolved resistance to the venom of invasive fire ants, allowing them to survive in areas where the ants have become established.
- Eastern Fence Lizards can perform a 'push-up' display to assert territory or attract mates. Their rough scales provide protection from predators and help them retain moisture. During the breeding season, males develop bright blue coloration on their throats and bellies.
