- Despite being a mammal, the Eastern Long-beaked Echidna lays eggs and incubates them in a pouch on its belly.
- The Eastern Long-beaked Echidna is one of only five extant monotreme species in the world. It possesses an electroreceptive snout, allowing it to detect the electrical signals of its prey underground. Its hind feet point backwards, helping it dig efficiently through tough soils.
