- Despite their species name 'aquaticus', Eastern Moles are not aquatic but are named for their preference for moist, loose soils.
- Eastern Moles can dig up to 4.5 meters of tunnel per hour when hunting for food. Their velvety fur can lie flat in any direction, allowing them to move easily backward and forward through tight tunnels.
