- The Eastern Newt's skin contains tetrodotoxin, the same potent neurotoxin found in pufferfish.
- Eastern Newts can regenerate lost limbs and even parts of their heart and eyes. Their red eft stage is highly toxic to many predators. These newts also use magnetic orientation to navigate during their terrestrial phase.
