- Unlike most toads, the males of this species physically wrestle each other using their spiny 'moustache' in fierce territorial battles.
- Male Emei Moustache Toads develop sharp, black 'moustache' spines during the breeding season to fight for territory and mates. They are exceptional at camouflage, blending into rocky stream beds. Tadpoles are adapted to cling to rocks in fast-flowing water.
