- Despite their vibrant appearance, emperor angelfish can blend seamlessly into coral reefs, making them surprisingly difficult to spot by predators and divers alike.
- Juvenile and adult emperor angelfish look so different that they were once thought to be separate species. Emperor angelfish are known to produce grunting or clicking sounds, especially during territorial disputes. They are also capable of changing sex from female to male in certain circumstances.
