- When threatened, the Emperor Newt can exude toxins through its skin, and the ribs can actually protrude through the skin to deliver poison directly.
- The Emperor Newt can produce enough toxin to kill about 7,500 mice. It relies on aposematic (warning) coloration to deter predators and is sometimes called the Mandarin Newt due to its regal appearance.
