- Unlike many songbirds, European Goldfinches prefer seeds from thistles and teasels, which many other birds avoid due to the plants' spiky defenses.
- European Goldfinches are famous for their acrobatic feeding behavior, often hanging upside down to reach seeds. They have been kept as cage birds for centuries due to their beautiful song and colorful appearance. During the winter, flocks can number in the hundreds as they forage together.
