- The European perch has been introduced to countries far outside its native range, including Australia and New Zealand, where it is considered an invasive species.
- European perch can change their diet as they grow, starting with small invertebrates and moving on to fish as adults. They are often one of the first fish species to colonize new or restored freshwater habitats. Perch are known for their sharp dorsal spines, which help deter predators.
