- Despite its name, the False Gharial is genetically closer to true crocodiles than to the true gharial.
- Unlike most crocodilians, the False Gharial has a particularly narrow snout adapted for catching fish, but adults also prey on mammals and birds. It is one of the longest crocodilian species, with some individuals exceeding 5 meters in length. The False Gharial is shy and rarely seen in the wild, making observations and studies difficult.
