- Fancy Goldfish are descendants of wild Prussian carp and have been selectively bred for ornamental purposes in China for over 1,000 years.
- Some Fancy Goldfish varieties, like the Bubble Eye and Celestial Eye, have extremely unusual eye shapes and features. They cannot survive in the wild, as their distinctive traits make them vulnerable to predators and environmental challenges. Some individuals have been known to live over 20 years with excellent care.
