Did you know?
- A Fennec Foxβs ears can grow up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) long, helping them not only hear prey, but also regulate body temperature.
- The fennec fox is capable of leaping over distances of nearly a meter, a remarkable feat for its small size, aiding in capturing prey and evading predators. Unlike many desert dwellers, it is primarily nocturnal, emerging at night to avoid daytime heat and to hunt insects, small mammals, and birds. Socially unique among foxes, fennecs live in family groups of up to ten individuals, displaying a level of social structure more akin to wolves than their solitary fox relatives. A common misconception is that fennec foxes are closely related to domestic dogs, when in fact, they are more distantly related, belonging to a distinct lineage within the canid family.
