- Despite their small size, fiddler crabs are crucial ecosystem engineers—by burrowing, they improve soil aeration and nutrient cycling in coastal habitats.
- Male fiddler crabs' oversized claw can weigh up to half their body weight and is regenerated if lost. Fiddler crabs use sophisticated waving displays to communicate and attract mates. They can survive both in and out of water by holding air in their burrows during high tide.
