- Despite their tiny size, Fiery-throated Hummingbirds are fiercely territorial and will chase away much larger birds from their favorite feeding spots.
- The Fiery-throated Hummingbird can appear almost entirely emerald green until sunlight hits its throat, revealing a spectrum of fiery colors. It has an extremely fast metabolism and must feed almost constantly throughout the day. Its heart can beat more than 1,200 times per minute during activity.
