- During migration, vast schools of flagtail prochilodus can dramatically alter river environments by stirring up sediments and aiding in nutrient cycling.
- Flagtail prochilodus undertake spectacular upstream migrations, sometimes traveling hundreds of kilometers to spawn. They are known locally as 'curimatã' or 'bocachico' and are a staple in regional fisheries. Their visually striking tail has made them a popular species in public aquariums.
