- Despite living in dry deserts, Gambel's Quail can survive long periods without direct water, obtaining moisture from the food they eat.
- Gambel's Quail are named after 19th-century naturalist William Gambel. Their distinctive topknot of feathers is actually made up of six plume feathers. These birds rarely fly and prefer to run swiftly across the ground to escape predators.
