- Despite their eerie appearance, ghost catfish are completely harmless and often used as bioindicators for water quality in their native habitats.
- Ghost catfish are virtually see-through, making them one of the most transparent vertebrates. They rely on their lateral line system to navigate murky waters and detect prey. When stressed or ill, their bodies can turn a milky-white color, losing their transparency.
