- Despite their name, golden moles are more closely related to tenrecs and elephant shrews than to true moles.
- Giant Golden Moles are nearly blind and rely on their sensitive hearing and touch to navigate underground. Their fur is water-resistant, allowing them to move easily through moist soil. They are among the few mammals that use 'swimming' movements to push through loose earth.
