- A single giant grouper has been recorded eating a whole small shark in one bite!
- Giant groupers can change sex from female to male as they mature. They produce a deep, booming sound by vibrating their swim bladders, which can be heard during territorial displays or spawning. Despite their size, juveniles often hide among mangrove roots and seagrass beds.
