- The species was only formally described in 2001, making it a relatively recent discovery in the world of arachnology.
- The giant huntsman spider holds the record for the largest leg span of any spider. Unlike many spiders, it does not build webs to catch prey but actively hunts and ambushes insects and other small animals. Its legs are adapted for sideways movement, much like a crab.
