- The adult Giant Leopard Moth can produce a vivid blue liquid as a defense mechanism when threatened. Its caterpillar is sometimes called a 'woolly bear,' but unlike some similar species, its bristles do not sting. Males can be significantly larger than females, with broader and more colorful abdomens.
