- Unlike most millipedes, giant pill millipedes have the remarkable ability to close themselves into a completely sealed ball, making them almost impenetrable to most predators.
- Giant pill millipedes can roll into a perfect sphere as a defense against predators, a behavior known as volvation. They are much larger than common pill bugs (which are actually crustaceans, not millipedes). Some individuals can reach up to 9 centimeters in length.
