- Despite their name and freshwater habitat as adults, the larvae of giant river prawns require brackish water to develop properly.
- Male giant river prawns have three distinct morphs, each with unique claw shapes and behaviors. These prawns can migrate between freshwater and brackish water during their life cycle. Their striking blue claws are especially prominent in adult males.
