- The Giant Water Scavenger Beetle can trap an air bubble under its wing covers, allowing it to breathe underwater for extended periods.
- Despite their size and predatory nature, Giant Water Scavenger Beetles can produce a squeaking sound when disturbed by rubbing parts of their abdomen together. Adults are capable of flying and often travel between bodies of water at night, sometimes being attracted to lights. The larvae, sometimes called 'water tigers,' are voracious predators, hunting tadpoles and small fish.
